The Success Story of ICOPH 2017

 

The 3rd International Conference on Public Health 2017 was organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka with the collaboration of Taylor’s University and MAHSA University Malaysia as Co- Hosting Partners.  Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences, India, Faculty of Medical Sciences – University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, Monash University, Malaysia and International Institute of Health Management and Research, India graced the conference as academic partners.  .

The conference was held on 27th – 29th of July 2017, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. ICOPH 2017 was organized under the theme “Strengthening the Public Health Infrastructure towards Health Communities“. The conference was chaired by Professor Dr. Hematram Yadav, Department of Community Medicine, MAHSA University, Malaysia and Prof. Dr. Rusli Bin Nordin, Professor of Public Health Medicine & Head, Clinical School Johor Bahru, Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University, Malaysia.

The opening remarks of ICOPH 2017 were made by the conference chairs together with Mr. Isanka P. Gamage (Managing Director The International Institute of Knowledge Management) and Programme chair of the conference.  Key note forum was the one of the most prestigious moments during the conference and it was enlightened by the key note on “Innovation and Collaboration in Public Health” delivered by Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (Director-General of Health Malaysia & Senior Consultant in Breast & Endocrine Surgery). “The Health Burden Associated with Children’s Exposures to Environmental Chemicals” was the other key note speech by Prof. David C. Bellinger (Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, United States) which made the conference very meaningful and fruitful.

The conference comprised of nineteen technical sessions, a students’ gathering and a poster session where researchers from around the world presented their research findings. The technical sessions were as follow,

The highlight of the inauguration of ICOPH 2017 was the addresses by the Chief Guest Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (Director-General of Health Malaysia & Senior Consultant in Breast & Endocrine Surgery).The conference was featured by a Student Gathering, Round Table Discussions, Chair Workshop and a Publication Workshop.

Publication Workshop


Dissemination of research findings is an essential part of the scientific research process, and writing in scientific journal is a mode of communication of the research findings. Getting a paper published in a well-reputed, peer-reviewed journal is an important goal for any researcher. The workshop commenced its valuable moment with the purpose of publishing papers in high-impact journals. The workshop was conducted by Professor Wah-Yun Low, Head, Research Management Centre, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Malaysia by providing a valued experience for students.

Round Table Discussions


 

 

The International Conference on Public Health (ICOPH 2017) hosted  a round table discussion for the senior researchers and  aimed to create a unified platform for participants to discuss on SDG’ s and debate on some of the global issues that would be in the form of discussion points. The event was conducted by Prof. Rusli bin Nordin, Conference Co- Chair, ICOPH 2017. The objective of this feature was to enhance the gathering with wisdom and useful knowledge enabling the emergence of possible solutions to issues faced globally in relation to the subject matter. The gathering addressed to following important tracks and came to end with solid and fruitful solutions.

  • Ensure that the SDGs are on track in all member countries
  • Measurable indicators of success develop to track the progress of the SDGs in member countries
  • Collaborate to work towards the realization of the SDGs in member countries
  • Suggest to governments and UNDP to support our effort towards the realization of the SDGs
  • Come up with a “ICOPH2017 Declaration” supporting our work towards the realization of the SDGs

Students’ Gathering


The International Conference on Public Health (ICOPH 2017) hosted a Students’ Gathering with the presence of Student Participants of the Conference. The objective of this moment is to develop networking opportunities among students who represent different nationalities and backgrounds while enabling them to share, experience and enjoy the conference duration with the peers. Exciting games and activities are lined up to make the day a pleasant one with moments to cherish and memories to be remembered. Apart from that this special feature provided an opportunity to enhance leadership skills, negotiate discussions and created an environment to work as a team with international peers. Students were provided with an opportunity to communicate among international peers through social media groups which will be helpful for their future networking.

 

 

Public Health 2017

ICOPH 2017 provided a solid platform for over 250 researchers, stake holders and policy makers from across the globe to share their research findings with one another and to discuss the policy implications. The conference provided a refreshing experience for everyone, especially for the young researchers who had the opportunity to share their research findings on an international platform.
