The Success Story of ICOPH 2018

The 4th International Conference on Public Health 2018 (ICOPH 2018) was organized by The International
Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka in collaboration with Mahsa University, Malaysia as
the Hosting Partner and The Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, The
University of Muhammadiyah Malang, Indonesia, Sikkim Manipal University, India, and The North South
University, Bangladesh as the academic partners. The Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB)
and the 16th World Congress of the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC 2019) were the
strategic partners of the Conference.

Inauguration Ceremony

The conference was held on 19 – 21 July 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. ICOPH 2018 was organized under the
theme “Promoting Quality and Safety in Health Care towards Healthy Communities” and was cochaired by Professor Dr. Hematram Yadav, Department of Community Medicine, MAHSA University,
Malaysia, and Prof. Dr. Rusli Bin Nordin, Professor of Occupational Health, Clinical School Johor Bahru,
Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University, Malaysia.


The opening remarks of ICOPH 2018 were made by conference co-chairs Professor Dr. Hematram Yadav,
Prof. Dr. Rusli Bin Nordin, and Mr. Isanka P. Gamage (Managing Director, The International Institute of
Knowledge Management). Dr. Puangpen Chanprasert, Senior Advisor to the Department of Health on
Sanitation, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand, who served as the chief guest delivered the inaugural
address.

Keynote Forum

The Keynote forum was one of the most significant parts of the conference. It was set off with an
enlightening keynote speech by John P. Elder (Distinguished Professor and Division Head, Division of
Health Promotion and Behavioral Science San Diego State University, United States). The second keynote
speech was delivered by Prof. Ernest Madu (Chairman and CEO of the Heart Institute of the Caribbean,
Jamaica). Plenary speeches were given by the following resource persons.

Students’ Gathering

The student gathering was a great opportunity for student participants to improve and strengthen their
research skills and to identify good research opportunities. It was facilitated by Dr. Keith Buckley (Director of
Physical and Health Education, Rollins College Winter Park, USA) under the theme “What Makes a Good
Research Question?” It was an interactive session filled with several questions and answers.

Publication Workshop

This workshop was conducted by an experienced researcher John P. Elder, a Distinguished Professor and
Division Head, Division of Health Promotion and Behavioral Science, San Diego State University, United States.
Professor Elder was generous in sharing his experiences and insights with those who attended this session.
The workshop also guided participants who were advised to try and submit their conference papers to
proceedings that indexed in world class journal databases such as SCOPUS, Thomson Reuters and Google
Scholar.

Round Table Discussion

The round table discussion of ICOPH 2018 was on Sustainable Development Goals and specially focused on
“Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages and health targets” as its theme. This
session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Rusli Bin Nordin, Professor of Occupational Health, Clinical School of Johor
Bahru, Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University, Malaysia.

Conference Chair Workshop

This workshop was arranged by the Conference Chair Prof. Dr. Hematram Yadav (MAHSA University,
Malaysia) to discuss the outcomes and get feedback on the Conference. Also discussed during this workshop were plans for organizing ICOPH 2019. The workshop produced many useful suggestions on how to
make future conferences more productive and relevant.

Networking Dinner and Cultural Show

The 4 International Conference on Public Health 2018 (ICOPH 2018) was concluded with networking dinner
and cultural show which depicted the hosting country’s heritage. The participants were also given a chance
to share their culture with fellow conference attendees during the cultural show. ICOPH 2018 dinner was a
great opportunity for all the participants to build new connections to strengthen their ongoing and future
research interests through collaboration. It was aimed to provide a fruitful time of networking and pleasure.

The conference comprised thirty (30) technical sessions and four (04) poster sessions where researchers
from around the world presented their research findings. There were 30 main technical sessions on areas

More than 200 Participants

ICOPH 2018 provided a solid platform for eminent researchers, academics, industry professionals,
government officials and other professional bodies from across the globe to share their research findings
with one another and to discuss their ideas in relation to the field of Public Health. The conference provided a
refreshing experience for all, especially for the young researchers who had the opportunity to share their
research findings on an international platform. The conference was an indeed a forum for international

PUBLICATION OPPORTUNITIES

All accepted abstracts for 4th International Conference on Public Health 2018 will be published in the
conference abstract book with an associated ISBN 978-955-3605-05-4. All full papers will be reviewed
through a double blind reviewing process and published electronically with an ISSN (2424 – 6735) in the
proceedings with a DOI Number (DOI prefix: 10.17501).
